I like the one on the right. It looks a bit dozy/ sad.
The one on the left looks totally wired (no pun intended). I wouldn't want it to hold my manuscript together in that sort of mood.

Okay guys, I'm a horrible procrastinator. Consequently, I've got a art history slide test tomorrow that I don't know shit about. Surprisingly, I didn't vote sad! If there was a "deprived of sleep because of cramming" option, I'd tick that a million times over.
Great thread, though! Nice to know you guys are interested in what WE have to say. :3 Plus, doom pony's pictures of staplers with eyes made my evening.
